Israeli military forces announced a ground offensive into southern Gaza has begun, raising new fears for the civilians crowded into the area, many of whom previously fled bombardment and battles in northern Gaza. Palestinian families who came south in search of safety are now fleeing once again. There were also four attacks yesterday on commercial vessels in the Red Sea that the U.S. believes were launched by Iran-backed rebels in Yemen, as well as three drones shot down by an American warship responding to the strikes. Here's the latest. |

Amanda Rakoczy grew up with a "well-meaning almond mom" who restricted her to salads at the buffet, while her skinny sister got to have a rack of ribs. It led to behaviors like bingeing and sneaking food, and she reached 300 pounds at 27. Eventually, she lost 125 pounds using the medication Mounjaro. Now a mom of two herself, she shared in a TikTok video titled "Anti-Almond Mom" how she is helping her kids develop a healthy relationship with food. "I never want my kids to feel shame around food," Rakoczy told TODAY.com. "It doesn't lead to anything good." Continue reading. |

One of the most popular eating plans for fast weight loss is the 1,200-calorie diet — but is it safe? It can be, and dietitian Samantha Cassetty explains how to include enough protein so that you don't lose muscle while losing fat. But some who tried it complained of fatigue, dehydration, nausea and other symptoms, and if you come off the diet, studies have shown there's a good chance you will gain back the weight you lost. Samantha also gives a sample of what a seven-day meal plan would look like on a 1,200-calorie diet, and how to decide whether it's right for you. |

If you've recently joined Taylor Swift in rooting for the Chiefs or just love good barbecue, these Kansas City-style oven ribs from chef and host Katie Lee Biegel will give you a taste of the city's famous tailgate staple. For tender, fall-off-the-bone ribs, you need to go slow and low at 250 degrees for 2½ in the oven, but it's well worth the wait. Katie's zippy barbecue sauce combines chili powder, brown sugar, celery seed, garlic powder, smoked paprika and more. Get the recipe. |

A little pick-me-up before you go. |
Kevin!!! Just in time for the Christmas season, we had a "Home Alone" reunion between stars Macaulay Culkin and his movie mom, Catherine O'Hara, in honor of Culkin receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. "Thank you for including me, your fake mom who left you home alone not once, but twice, to share in this happy occasion," said O'Hara, who also starred in the 1992 sequel. Culkin, 43, who was there with his fiancée, Brenda Song, and their two children, thanked O'Hara and Song before delivering a classic line: "To wrap things up, and in the spirit of the holiday season, I just want to say, merry Christmas, you filthy animals."
