Hollywood writers could soon have company on the picket line. Thousands of actors represented by the powerful labor union SAG-AFTRA are on course to go on strike after failing to reach a deal on a new contract with top industry studios before last night's deadline. The union's national board will meet this morning to decide whether to order a strike. The potential action comes as the writers' strike is now in its third month and has halted most television production, filming of high-profile movies and late-night talk shows. The actors are seeking better base pay amid the new economics of streaming entertainment, plus assurances regarding the use of artificial intelligence. Here's the latest. |

This year's Emmy voters are serious people, as they nominated HBO's "Succession" for 27 awards to lead the field ahead of another HBO show, "The Last of Us," with 24 noms. In the outstanding supporting actor in a drama series category, four of the eight nominees are from "Succession." (Cousin Greg for the win!) It's a similar story in the outstanding supporting actress category, where four of the eight nominees are from "The White Lotus." Fans of the pseudo-reality series "Jury Duty" were delighted to see it snag a nomination for outstanding comedy series, while show star James Marsden got a nod for playing ... James Marsden. See all the nominees here. |

Morgan Bellock's decision to freeze her eggs at 34 in case she wanted to have children down the road ended up saving her life when doctors discovered she had ovarian cancer. An ultrasound during the process found a mass on her ovary that led to her having a cyst removed. Hiding behind the cyst was a tumor containing a stage 1 form of an aggressive cancer. If doctors had not found it, they said she may not have exhibited symptoms for years, allowing it to spread or become more advanced. "There's a very real way that I could have not been here today, which is wild to think about," Bellock told TODAY.com. "I didn't have any symptoms." Read the full story here. |

She's the newest Gerber Baby, and she's adorable! Meet Madison Mendoza, who was revealed on TODAY to be the latest face of the classic baby food brand. The 10-month-old cutie is part of a military family, as her dad, Jun Mendoza, is an Air Force doctor and colonel. Jun and his wife, Crystal, are high school sweethearts and first-generation Americans of Filipino parents who said it means a lot for Maddie to represent military children for Gerber. In a twist in this year's Gerber Baby contest, parents also sent in their own baby pictures along with their child's photos. Maddie looks so much like her mother did as a baby that Crystal's own mom was fooled. See the photos here. |
