A pair of handwritten notes weighed down by rocks led to the rescue of a mother and her 9-year-old son after they were stranded with a disabled vehicle for more than 24 hours in the remote Sierra Nevada wilderness in California. One note was found at an intersection by a search-and-rescue team, which led them to find a second note and identify the mother and son's location, the Calaveras County Sheriff's Office said. Authorities also credited the woman and her son with using other important survival techniques to help in their rescue. |
