A New Mexico jury found "Rust" armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed guilty of involuntary manslaughter yesterday, and she now faces up to 18 months in prison. The trial revolved around a 2021 shooting on the film's set that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injured director Joel Souza. Prosecutors argued that Gutierrez-Reed, 26, was responsible for bringing live rounds onto the set, while her attorneys alleged that actor Alec Baldwin, who was holding the prop gun when it went off, was to blame. One juror told NBC News that Gutierrez-Reed "not checking the weapons" was a major factor in his decision. Here's the latest. |

Gray whales had been considered extinct in the Atlantic Ocean for 200 years — until now. A gray whale was spotted 30 miles south of Nantucket off the coast of Massachusetts on March 1, the New England Aquarium said. "My brain was trying to process what I was seeing, because this animal was something that should not really exist in these waters," research technician Kate Laemmle said in a statement. The species disappeared from the Atlantic in the 18th century, in part due to whaling. Scientists believe climate change may be responsible for the return. Continue reading. |

Johanna Mendoza was on vacation in Mexico in 2021 when she noticed some strange red dots on one of her wrists. The California woman thought maybe it was from something she ate, but then the splotches began appearing on other parts of her body. She visited the emergency room near her home and was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL). Mendoza, 25, who is now cancer free, underwent a bone marrow transplant in 2022. "Life throws you a curveball, but just because it throws it at you doesn't mean you have to give up," she told TODAY.com. "Keep going and keep crushing it." Read about her journey here. |

Achieve your life and health goals with easy tips. |
It's become a constant question in the age of fitness trackers: How many steps do you need to walk every day to lose weight? Is 10,000 an arbitrary target? A new study published in February looking at the walking patterns of 6,000 women between 63 and 99 years old found that an average of 3,600 steps a day could reduce the risk of heart failure by 26%. A cardiologist also told us at least 4,000 steps a day are enough to reduce the progression of diabetes and high blood pressure, while people looking to lose weight should aim for 60 minutes a day. Check out these tips for how to get into a walking habit. |

Adam Richman, host of "The Food That Built America" on the History Channel, stopped by the TODAY kitchen to share a cola-infused spin on classic ribs. Adam's sweet and spicy Dr. Pepper ribs use a bright citrus marinade to soften the meat, while brushing the ribs with Korean gochujang paste gives them a crispy, spicy texture. Get the recipe. |
