We hear time and time again how ditching the scale actually helped Start TODAY members lose weight, not to mention feel healthier both physically and mentally.
And just because you aren't stepping on the scale doesn't mean you can't track your progress. Non-scale victories are ways that people can measure the success of adopting healthier eating and exercise habits that aren't focused on weight loss.
These non-scale victories can shift how you think about yourself and your goals, says Sammie Gollup, a dietitian and owner of Anti Diet Mama, tells TODAY.com. Plus, tracking progress in this way can actually be more motivating than relying on a number on the scale.
"When we are intrinsically motivated … we're going to be much more likely to continue," says Gollup. "If we're just looking for appearance or movement on a scale … it's much more likely that we are going to quit these behaviors because we think they're not making an impact."
