A meditation practice can combat stress, reduce emotional eating and boost happiness. But, for many of us, meditating is easier said than done.
If you find yourself unable to quiet your thoughts, you're not alone. Some people find it extremely difficult to slow their mind, especially when they are forced to sit still in a quiet place.
If you can relate, Trainer Stephanie Mansour recommends going back to the basics and focusing on your breath.
"Breath work may be the most accessible tool we have to calm ourselves down and recenter throughout the day," she says. "It can be done in your car, your office, or in line at the store and can have a huge effect on our mental state."
This simple exercise can help you calm down instantly and tap into a meditative state anywhere:
- Breathe in slowly to a count of 4.
- Breathe out slowly, counting down from 4.
