In an about-face yesterday, Moscow police said the stabbing deaths of four University of Idaho students were a "targeted attack," one day after authorities appeared to suggest the opposite. Victims' families and the public have been left with questions after police described it as a targeted attack on Nov. 15, then the local prosecutor's office said the same, but police called that a "miscommunication," writing on Facebook that they didn't know if the students were "specifically targeted." Yesterday, police reversed that claim and reaffirmed their initial belief that the group or house was targeted. Here's the latest. |

Taking daily walks with your dog can not only lower the risk of dementia for you, but also your pet, according to a recent study in Nature Scientific Reports. Yes, dogs can also get dementia, and the study authors found that the second-greatest risk factor for canine dementia after age was lack of exercise. A separate study earlier this year found that people who walk 10,000 steps a day can cut the risk of dementia in half, and the latest research shows the benefits of taking your dog along. "This (study) just further supports the critically important role that exercise and activity play in a healthy lifestyle, both in dogs and in humans," one of the study's co-authors told us. It can be tough to strike a balance between enjoying the holidays and overindulging, but the 50% rule can help. TODAY fitness guru Stephanie Mansour has used it to maintain her health over the holidays, and the rule is simple: Only put in 50% of the effort toward your goal. She recalled a client who was discouraged after not walking her usual 10,000 steps a day, so she cut it to 5,000. The woman was able to hit that daily goal, and it kept her practicing other healthy habits. The 50% rule can also be applied to comfort foods and festive cocktails. Stephanie also shares 3 unrealistic holiday health rules to avoid. |
