When loneliness strikes, volunteering can soothe a soul.

People who felt lonely felt better when they volunteered two hours or more a week, a recent study found. It didn't matter what the activity was -- whether it was cuddling babies or creating a community garden -- just as long as people made it part of their regular routine. The findings are important because loneliness is a growing problem for people of all ages, experts say.
