Spirit Airlines said this morning it has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection after struggling with losses, growing debt and a failed merger with JetBlue. Ticket sales and all other operations will continue as normal after the company secured a prearranged deal that includes $300 million in financing to keep it afloat, the airline said in a statement.
The CDC reported that 15 people have been hospitalized and one person has died from an E. coli outbreak that has infected 39 people across 18 states. Those infected told the CDC they consumed organic whole bagged carrots and baby carrots from Grimmway Farms, which were sold at stores including Trader Joe's, Whole Foods and Wegmans.
