Happy Thanksgiving! May your day be full of delicious food, people you love and gratitude. Having an attitude of gratitude, as they say, is a beautiful way to celebrate. You and everyone around you will benefit from a heartfelt "thank you" — even if you don't say it out loud. In fact, psychologists recommend writing a letter expressing your gratitude, instead. The interesting twist of this mood-boosting writing practice is that this thank you note should be written to someone very specific: You. That's right — a psychologist told TODAY that writing a letter to your past self thanking them for being brave and getting through the tough times is a great way to increase your self-awareness. If you want to spread the (self) love, you could invite everyone you gather with this holiday to tell you why they are grateful to their past selves, too. Don't worry — feeling grateful for your own resilience won't detract from the gratitude you feel towards others. In fact, being able to recognize how far you've come in your own life may make you better able to see those loveable traits in others, too. |
