Vitamin D can help with everything from bone growth to reducing inflammation. It's naturally present in some foods, added to others and produced when skin is exposed to sunlight.

For most people, eating a regular, balanced diet and getting enough sunlight will keep them within the optimal range of vitamin D levels, experts say.
