Wondering why you should make it a goal to walk every day?
The physical benefits of walking are huge — improving cardiovascular health and circulation, reducing joint stiffness and muscle aches and pains, improving blood pressure, boosting metabolism and more.

Different strategies can help you put one foot in front of the other and develop a regular walking routine.
When Missy Gillenwater started, she could barely make it a mile. Staying motivated to keep moving wasn't easy. "Motivation through the hard times continued to be a struggle," Gillenwater says. "It can be hard to get started and then continue going. At first, I could hardly walk a mile!" But she stuck with it, gradually increasing her distance each day, and the pounds started to come off.
Today, she's lost 114 pounds and walks 10 to 13 miles a day — and she recently hit a 13-month walking streak!
In addition to the encouragement of other members in the Start TODAY group, Gillenwater credits taking pictures with helping her stick with it. She suggests taking photos at every stage of your journey. Seeing the transformation of her own body has helped her stay motivated and she loves looking back at photos and seeing how far she has come.
