Ashley Paugh took a day trip to Colorado Springs with a friend and ended the night at Club Q, where they were going to see a stand-up comedian. Paugh and four others were killed on Nov. 19 when a gunman entered the LGBTQ nightclub and opened fire, injuring 25 others. Paugh's sister, Stephanie Clark, told NBC News, "Nothing will ever be the same without her." The other victims included two bartenders and two other clubgoers. Here's what else we know about them. Meanwhile, the Army veteran who tackled and subdued the gunman spoke about his heroic efforts. "I just know I got into mode, and I needed to save my family," said Richard Fierro, 45, who was at the club with his wife, their daughter and friends. Read his story here. |

Genevieve Knox was stunned during her 20-week pregnancy scan to find out she was having twins, but the surprises didn't stop there. At an ultrasound nine weeks later, the San Diego 5th grade teacher learned she was actually pregnant with triplets. "I barely remember anything else about the moment. I was in total shock," she told us. Knox, now 43, gave birth to three daughters in 2019 after having experienced what is known as hidden triplet syndrome. "When the babies are very small, one baby can hide behind the other," her doctor told us. "Typically by 26, 27, 28 weeks, the baby that's been missed will suddenly appear." Read her story here. |

In a tender new essay, writer Lisa Cleary reflects on being a Korean girl adopted by white parents and the occasional longing she felt to see parts of herself in her mom, dad and siblings. The opportunity came when, in her 30s, she gave birth to her own baby girl, Lainey. "I tickled the dark fringe of Lainey's hair and smoothed my thumb over her eyelids, which were — finally — a part of me," she writes. Read the essay here. |

Thomas Turcich spent the past seven years walking around the world with his dog, Savannah. Turcich told us he started the journey after he lost his childhood best friend in 2015. "It really drove home the fact that life isn't guaranteed and I don't know how much time I have," he said. Over the years, Turcich visited nearly every continent with his pup by his side, and even became the first private citizen to cross the Bosphorus Bridge in Turkey, which goes from Europe to Asia. Now Savannah is enjoying the retired life — that is, going on 4-mile hikes with Turcich's dad and getting lots of treats. Read more about Turcich's trek here. |
