A lot of people in the Start TODAY Facebook Group get their daily walks in with a beloved canine companion by their side. This is a win-win situation for everyone involved — dogs and humans both get their exercise. Not only that, but there's actually research showing that people who walk with dogs tend to have more social interactions than people who don't. So not only do you get to take a (furry) friend on your daily walking adventure, having a dog with you could make it more likely for you to make more friends along the way. In fact, there are a lot of evidence-based benefits of dog walking, particularly for older adults. But what if you don't have a dog? Does that mean that you don't get to reap all those benefits? No way! There are a ton of animal shelters and rescue organizations that would love you to volunteer to walk a dog. And if you ask around your neighborhood or the message board in your local grocery, you will likely find that you have a lot of neighbors who really need some help with their pooches. So, even if you don't have a dog of your own, borrow one and hit the road! And don't forget to post pics of you walking with your cute pups in the Facebook Group. If there's one thing a lot of us can't get enough of, it's cute dogs. |
