Dr. Jud Brewer, executive medical director of the health and wellness company Sharecare and author of "Unwinding Anxiety," joined TODAY to share simple ways to calm our minds and relieve feelings of anxiety. Brewer demonstrated an easy-to-follow breathing technique that can help anyone calm down in the moment: It's called five-finger breathing.
Here's how to do it: Put your hand in front of you, spreading out your fingers. Open your eyes wide. As you breathe in, trace the outside of your finger, starting with the pinkie. After reaching the top of your pinkie finger, exhale as you trace down the other side of the pinkie. Repeat with each finger, focusing on your breathing and being present in the moment.
