There are some things that Dr. Alanna Levine, a New York-based pediatrician, never lets her kids do because they're too dangerous. And some of them just don't reinforce healthy habits for our kids — or for us. For example, Levine doesn't let her kids charge their devices in their bedroom — and we should all heed her warning. "Plain and simple, it interferes with sleep," Levine told TODAY. Looking at a screen — like a smartphone or tablet — late at night can affect the biological mechanisms that keep our circadian rhythm on track. And the excitement we get from scrolling on social media can keep us awake, as well. It can be impossible to ignore alerts while you're trying to sleep, no matter how old you are. That's why Levine recommends that families try old old fashioned alarm clocks. |
