1 step to keep salmonella out of the kitchen

Recent recalls of cereal and crackers over fears of possible salmonella contamination show even dry foods that are stored in pantries have the potential to make you sick. One way to stay safe is to use air-tight containers and jars to store dry goods in the pantry. When foods like cereals or crackers are left in their cardboard boxes, the contents are vulnerable to moisture and therefore mold and bacteria. Be sure to wash and dry the containers thoroughly before and between uses.
