A critical report released yesterday by a Texas House committee found "systemic failures and egregiously poor decision making" by law enforcement and the school district in Uvalde during the mass shooting that killed 19 children and two teachers in May. The report found that a lack of direction and leadership among the 376 officers on the scene resulted in an "overall lackadaisical approach." Uvalde's mayor said Sunday the city's acting police chief has been placed on leave, and they will soon release body camera footage from the officers' response as the investigation continues. |

One girl didn't even know how to ride a bike. Another had no idea triathlons involved three sports. Yet they all discovered what they were capable of thanks to the I-TRI program, which trains young girls to compete in youth triathlons to teach them confidence and goal-setting. Triathlete Theresa Roden created the program after wishing she had discovered triathlons in middle school and not in her 30s. "I realized just how hard that time of life is," she told us. "I just thought, 'Gosh if we could empower girls at this age and give them all the tools and training, and the love and support necessary to do a really big goal like doing a triathlon ... it can change everything.'" |
