However, prices at the pump did drop from an average of $5 a gallon nationally to about $4.65, according to AAA, giving hope that inflation may have peaked in June. Nearly 4,000 beagles are being moved to humane societies across the country to be adopted after being rescued from a breeding facility in Virginia. A federal ruling found that the facility had inhumane conditions, including inadequate medical care and insufficient food. For anyone interested in adopting or fostering a beagle, Homeward Trails Animal Rescue in Virginia recommends following a page for the beagles on the website for the Humane Society of the United States, which will list where the beagles will be sent.

It's been 54 years since Robin Borlandoe sat on a lifeguard stand, but the 70-year-old grandmother of six is back wearing red and white for a special reason this summer. Borlandoe, who worked as a lifeguard when she was 16, came out of retirement to work for the city of Philadelphia amid a national lifeguard shortage. Fifteen of Philadelphia's 65 community pools are closed due to the shortage, which Borlandoe said removes a safe place for kids in a city plagued by violence. She took the required lifeguard fitness test multiple times until she passed. "I'm very much committed to this," she told NBC Nightly News. "This is my reputation. This is my community."
