Police found 46 people dead inside a tractor trailer in San Antonio yesterday as well as 16 others who were found alive and taken to local hospitals in what appears to be the deadliest human smuggling case in modern U.S. history. Three people are in custody, although police said they don't know if they were definitely connected to the incident. Temperatures reached 100 degrees in the area yesterday. "We're not supposed to open up a truck and see stacks of bodies in there," the San Antonio police chief said, adding that the survivors "were hot to the touch" and that there was no water or air conditioning in the truck. |

The Supreme Court ruled yesterday that a high school football coach at a public school in Washington state had a right to pray on the field following games. Joseph Kennedy claimed that the Bremerton School District violated his religious freedom by telling him he couldn't pray publicly on the 50-yard line after games. The ruling has implications for the separation of church and state, and could lead to more acceptance of religious expression at public schools. |

The most exciting moment at this Yankees-Astros game may have happened in the bleachers. It was a tie game, bottom of the 9th inning with a runner on second, but fans in section 202 were riveted by this little girl trying to land a bottle flip. After several tries, she finally nailed it, prompting the crowd to lose its mind. Video of the big reaction went viral, and you can watch it here. (And it proved to be a good omen, as the Yankees pulled out a win in extra innings, 6-3.) Only in New York. 🍎 |
