NBC News correspondent Kristen Dahlgren was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer after noticing a slight dent in her right breast.
She had just had a mammogram that picked up nothing suspicious and she didn't feel a lump beneath the dent, but something she described as a thickening. "It just felt different than everywhere else. I knew I needed to have it checked out," she said.
It's profoundly important for women to be aware of their breasts, including subtle changes in their shape, doctors say.
