Hurricane Melissa intensified to a Category 5 storm early this morning and is set to make landfall in Jamaica early tomorrow, with forecasters warning it could cause catastrophic flooding and life-threatening landslides. The hurricane had sustained wins of 160 miles per hour early this morning and could inundate areas of eastern Jamaica with up to 40 inches of rain, making it the most powerful storm to hit the island nation in the Caribbean since Hurricane Gilbert in 1988.
