After Marisa Peters noticed blood on the toilet paper following a bowel movement, she said her doctors told her that it was most likely related to childbirth. The symptoms continued for five years, but doctors assured the mom from California that she was fine. She gave birth to two more children before finally undergoing a colonoscopy that led to a diagnosis of Stage 3 rectal cancer in 2021. Peters, 43, has since started a nonprofit to raise awareness of the rising rates of colorectal cancer in young people.
