Pete Rose, Major League Baseball's all-time hits leader who was banned from the game for gambling, died yesterday at 83. Rose, aka "Charlie Hustle," was a 17-time All-Star, primarily for the Cincinnati Reds, and finished his career with 4,256 hits, a record that still stands. Yet he was declared ineligible for the Hall of Fame and banned for life in 1989 when an investigation found he had gambled on baseball — including on Reds' games — while serving as the Reds' manager.
