A new "Peanuts" special is honoring Franklin Armstrong, the beloved comic strip's first Black character. While Franklin has appeared in the comics since 1968, Franklin will become the main character in "Snoopy Presents: Welcome Home, Franklin." The special features Franklin as he's new to town and hoping to make friends. The "Peanuts" gang end up entering the Soap Box Derby, and Franklin teams up with Charlie Brown. The special's director said the team leaned into what "Peanuts" creator Charles Schulz revealed about Franklin and used the Apple TV special, which airs on Friday, Feb. 16 "as a chance to develop this character more." |
