The Texas Supreme Court yesterday ruled against a pregnant woman who challenged the state's abortion ban because her fetus had received a fatal diagnosis. The court's ruling came hours after the attorney for Kate Cox, a mother of two who is 20 weeks pregnant, said she would travel outside the state to have an abortion "due to the ongoing deterioration" of her health. Cox's fetus has trisomy 18, a rare chromosomal disorder likely to cause stillbirth or the death of a baby shortly after birth. "Kate's case is proof that exceptions don't work, and it's dangerous to be pregnant in any state with an abortion ban," her attorney said. Here's the latest. |

Awards season is almost upon us and, in a rewind of the summer box office's biggest story, "Barbenheimer" dominated the 2024 Golden Globe nominations. The NFL may be mulling whether to outlaw pushing and shoving — but only when it comes to a specific play. The "tush push — or as they call it in Philly, the "brotherly shove" — involves multiple players lining up behind the quarterback and then pushing him forward to get a yard for a first down or touchdown. While other teams have employed it, the Eagles have made it nearly unstoppable. Some players and pundits have called for the play to be banned, arguing the quarterback should run under his own power. But others say it's perfectly legal. Read more here. |

A little pick-me-up before you go. |
It was a moment Clark Griswold could appreciate. Texas woman Brett Ingram was a character in "Christmas Vacation" when she heard animal sounds coming from her artificial Christmas tree. After she peered in, she was stunned to see an opossum staring back. Ingram was admittedly "freaking out" in a TikTok video of the critter looking at her from between the boughs. She then tried to get the holiday intruder out of her home. "He flopped out," Ingram told us. "He was trying to get away from me and ran under my couches back and forth multiple times. He smelled very bad. We did have a talk about that, and then I put him outside on his merry way." |
