A gunman opened fire on the campus of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, yesterday, killing three people and wounding a fourth before being shot dead by police. The suspect has not been named but according to law enforcement sources is a man in his 60s, NBC News reported. He began shooting on the fourth floor of Beam Hall, a building on campus, Las Vegas Police Sheriff Kevin McMahill said. Students described hearing gunshots and fleeing for safety. The attack comes six years after the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history took place in Las Vegas during a country music festival. Here's the latest. |

California Rep. Kevin McCarthy, who became the first speaker of the House to be ousted in the middle of a congressional term, said yesterday that he will resign from office at the end of this month. "No matter the odds, or personal cost, we did the right thing. That may seem out of fashion in Washington these days, but delivering results for the American people is still celebrated across the country," McCarthy wrote in an op-ed in The Wall Street Journal. McCarthy's exit cuts down an already narrow Republican majority in the House. His announcement came ahead of four presidential hopefuls squaring off in last night's Republican debate. Here are the takeaways. |

A little pick-me-up before you go. |
Look out, Beyoncé! Yesterday, Hoda and Jenna took to the plaza to perform their holiday song, "Carefree Christmas," live on the show. Donning matching black suits, the pair were joined by their vocal coach, Cheryl Porter, and singers from the Manhattan School of Music choral ensemble. The day after it was released, the uplifting song hit No. 7 on the iTunes chart. Not bad for a couple of morning TV hosts! "Move over Mariah ..." Jenna has joked. See their performance here. |
