Alabama woman Carlee Russell has admitted she lied about being kidnapped after calling police about a toddler wandering on the highway earlier this month, a hoax that set off a frantic effort to find her. Russell returned home 49 hours after making that 911 call on July 13, and her parents later told TODAY they believed her abductor was still out there. However, on Monday Russell said in a statement through her attorney, "There was no kidnapping." The Hoover Police Department is now considering criminal charges against her, its police chief said. Russell's attorney said she acted alone and didn't have help. Her ex-boyfriend, who had previously come to her defense, condemned her yesterday, saying his family was "disgusted" and "blindsided" by her actions. Here's the latest. |

A 23-year-old Black man who was mauled by a police dog in Ohio on July 4 after surrendering with his hands up appeared to tell 911 dispatchers in at least two calls that he didn't know why he was being pulled over or why troopers had their guns drawn. "Right now I'm being chased by like 20 police officers and they all got their guns pointed directly to my truck," a man police believed to be Jadarrius Rose told a dispatcher in a 911 call released yesterday. "So now I'm trying to figure out why they got their guns all pointed to me and they're all white people." Also, the Circleville Police Department officer who was seen on bodycam video releasing a K-9 dog that attacked Rose was placed on administrative leave five days ago, the Circleville mayor told NBC News. But is it better for your health? A 2022 study found that people who eat later dinners tend to burn fewer calories and continue to feel hungry after their evening meal, which can make it tough to maintain a healthy weight. Another study found that 6 p.m. is the ideal time for dinner. We have tips on how to approach the timing of your meals throughout the day, plus the pros and cons of intermittent fasting when it comes to losing weight. |

A little pick-me-up before you go. |
That's the surprised face and cute smile of a boy who has found his forever family. A 6-year-old from North Carolina named Harvey had a moment he'll never forget when his foster parents, Megan and Brian Raby, sat him down to deliver a special message. A video shows Harvey's reaction after he gets the news. "I'm adopted? I'm adopted right now?" he says. "I'm going to stay here? Yay!" He then pops up from his chair to jump around the porch with glee before hugging his parents. Megan shared the video on TikTok to mark the third anniversary of Harvey's adoption. "This video is our favorite treasure," she wrote. See the sweet moment here. |
