A social media page appearing to belong to a gunman who killed eight people at a Dallas-area mall contained extremist beliefs with rants against Jews, women and racial minorities, as well as posts about struggling with mental health. The 33-year-old gunman made posts railing against women, praising school shooters, and shared shirtless pictures of himself with visible white power tattoos, including a swastika. Among the victims were a 3-year-old boy and his parents, two elementary school-aged sisters, a security guard and an engineer with a master's degree. Police haven't revealed a motive. Former President Donald Trump has been restricted from posting on social media about some evidence ahead of his trial 34 felony counts of falsifying business records related to hush money payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels and another woman. Judge Juan Merchan ruled that anyone with access to the evidence being turned over to Trump's team by state prosecutors "shall not copy, disseminate or disclose" the material to third parties, including social media platforms, "without prior approval from the court." Trump "has a longstanding and perhaps singular history of attacking witnesses, investigators, prosecutors, trial jurors, grand jurors, judges, and others involved in legal proceedings against him, putting those individuals and their families at considerable safety risk," the DA's office argued in a court filing last month. Trump's team did not respond to yesterday's ruling. Here's the latest. |

Parents often struggle to accept that "children are allowed to be angry, sad, unhappy in some way," Klein told CNBC. Children who learn to manage their negative emotions effectively are more likely to develop the resilience they'll need as a successful adult, research shows. Read more here. |

A little pick-me-up before you go. |
Sometimes one letter in a cake order can make all the difference. Texas baker Brianna Romero shared the hilarious happy accident that occurred when she got a request to make an "emo cake," referring (she thought) to the brooding, emotional music genre. She went to work, covering the cake in black frosting, until she learned it was for a 4-year-old girl's birthday. "My heart sinks a little bit because this is now making sense to me," she said in a TikTok video. "And when I scroll back, I misread emo and it says 'Elmo cake.'" Less than an hour before delivering the cake, she rushed to a local grocery store to get an Elmo topper and quickly made the beloved Sesame Street character look like a member of My Chemical Romance. She showed off the moody dessert on TikTok to everyone's delight. "Elmo with a side bang has me in tears," one person wrote. Romero has taken it in stride. "It's been fun," she told us. "It's silly to me." |
