In a dramatic display of the Kremlin's war increasingly coming home, Moscow was hit by drones this morning in what appeared to be the first attack on residential areas of the Russian capital since the invasion of Ukraine. The incident caused damage to some buildings and forced residents to evacuate homes, local officials said. Eight "aircraft-type" unmanned aerial vehicles were involved in the alleged attack, the Russian defense ministry said. It comes days after a deadly Russian bombardment against civilians in the Ukraine capital of Kyiv. An adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said his country had "nothing directly to do" with the drone attacks. The bipartisan deal struck by President Joe Biden and Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy will get a vote in the Republican-led House tomorrow. The crucial vote will need to also pass the Democratic-controlled Senate before the June 5 deadline set by the Treasury Department to act or risk default, potentially causing global financial chaos. The deal would extend the debt limit for two years alongside modest federal spending cuts and a series of policy provisions. House GOP hard-liners have trashed the bill ahead of the vote, while the White House has worked to shore up Democratic support for it. Here's what to know, including what's in it for Democrats and Republicans. |
