A Russian jet fighter dumped fuel on a U.S. drone and flew in front of it in "an unprofessional manner" yesterday before colliding with it just miles from the war in Ukraine, U.S. European Command said. The MQ-9 Reaper drone was forced down in international waters after one of two Russian fighter jets in the area struck the drone's propeller, military officials said. A U.S. official said the Russian pilot showed "complete ineptitude," while the Russian Defense Ministry said the Russian planes did not use weapons and did not make contact with the drone. Here's the latest. |

In a moving essay about raising a daughter with intellectual disabilities, Catherine Shields writes about how she felt a "secret shame" over not speaking out in support of her daughter more often. She describes feeling the eyes of other parents on her during a childhood meltdown in a McDonald's, and wrestling with her emotions now that her daughter is 30 years old. "What you resent more than anything is the way you see yourself," she wrote. "The bedraggled mother of a child with a disability. A failure." However, a simple statement by her granddaughter recently gave her an opening to talk to her about Aunt Jessica. "You are changing the narrative," she wrote. Read the essay here. |
