Residents in the area around East Palestine, Ohio, are sounding the alarm as fish and chickens started suddenly dying after a 150-car train carrying hazardous chemicals derailed on Feb. 3. To avoid an explosion, officials planned a controlled chemical release and burned several train cars carrying vinyl chloride, a flammable gas. Authorities have said it is safe for residents to return home, but people living in the area have reported persistent coughs. Others are only drinking bottled water after the Ohio Department of Natural Resources said the chemical spill had killed about 3,500 small fish in the area. "Don't tell me it's safe. Something is going on if the fish are floating in the creek," Cathey Reese, who lives in Negley, Ohio, told an NBC affiliate last week. |

A little pick-me-up before you go. |
TODAY's Jenna Bush Hager took the power of love to a new level. In honor of Valentine's Day, Jenna met with an expert who fitted her with an electrode cap for an electroencephalogram (EEG), a test that monitors and measures electrical activity in the brain. The doctor showed Jenna several images, including ones of her husband, Henry Hager, her cat, Hollywood Hager, and TODAY's own Al Roker. Jenna's brainwave response was strongest to the image of her husband, and the only one that came close was Hollywood. Read Henry's adorable response to Jenna's brain scan here. |
