A long and grueling campaign for a crucial Senate seat will be decided today when voters head to the polls in Georgia to choose either Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock or Republican challenger Herschel Walker in a runoff election. A victory by Warnock would expand the Senate majority for Democrats, who currently have a 50-49 edge. Warnock has built up a lead in Georgia's record-breaking early vote, and an adviser to Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp told NBC News that Walker "needs to win Election Day by double digits" in order to defeat the incumbent. Meanwhile, as the runoff reaches its final hours, an ex-girlfriend of Walkers spoke exclusively to NBC News about what she said was his abusive behavior toward her. |

Kirstie Alley, who famously replaced Shelley Long as Ted Danson's love interest on the hit sitcom "Cheers" in 1987, died at 71 from cancer that was only recently discovered, according to a social media statement by her two children. "She was surrounded by her closest family and fought with great strength, leaving us with a certainty of her never-ending joy of living whatever adventures lie ahead," they wrote. Alley won an Emmy and a Golden Globe in 1991 for her portrayal of Rebecca Howe on "Cheers." She also starred in the "Look Who's Talking" films with John Travolta, who paid tribute to her with a heartfelt message yesterday night. |

The TODAY family has released their annual holiday video card, and to us, it is perfect. The anchors took their inspiration from the Christmas classic "Love Actually" for this year's edition, using cue cards that professed warm wishes to all the TODAY fans. Even though Al Roker couldn't join in due to recent health issues, they made sure the beloved weatherman was there in spirit by holding large cutouts of his face in the video. Watch the fun video here. |
