Sen. Raphael Warnock will retain his seat for a full six-year term after defeating Republican challenger Herschel Walker in yesterday's runoff election in Georgia, NBC News projects. His victory will give Democrats a 51-49 majority in the Senate after two years of a 50-50 split. Neither candidate won an outright majority of the vote in last month's midterm elections, which triggered a state law necessitating a runoff election. "After a hard-fought campaign — or should I say campaigns — it is my honor to utter the four most powerful words ever spoken in a democracy: The people have spoken," Warnock told supporters. |
