President Biden ripped former President Donald Trump yesterday for "lacking the courage" to act during the Capitol riot in a pre-emptive attack ahead of a scheduled speech by Trump today in Washington, D.C. Trump is returning to the nation's capital for the first time since leaving the White House in 2021 and has planned a speech about law and order, which Biden called hypocritical given Trump's actions on Jan. 6. "You can't be pro-insurrection and pro-cop," Biden said. "You can't be pro-insurrection and pro-democracy." Trump takes the stage today at the Marriott Marquis, a mile and half from the Capitol, to discuss public safety. |

Rep. Glenn Thompson, a Republican from Pennsylvania, was at his gay son's wedding just three days after voting against a House bill that would codify federal protections for same-sex marriage. (Thompson's son confirmed to NBC News that he was there.) The bipartisan Respect for Marriage Act is now being considered by the Senate amid fears that existing same-sex marriage protections could be overturned by the conservative-leaning Supreme Court. Thompson called the proposed legislation "an election-year messaging stunt for Democrats in Congress." |

Paul Sorvino, best known for his role as garlic-slicing mobster Paul Cicero in the 1990 classic "Goodfellas," died yesterday at 83. Sorvino was also known for his roles in "Nixon," "Dick Tracy" and "Law & Order." His daughter, Oscar winner Mira Sorvino (above), tweeted that he was "the most wonderful father" and that she was "sending you love in the stars Dad as you ascend." Sorvino's death follows that of fellow "Goodfellas" star Ray Liotta, who died at 67 in May. |
