What is retinol and can I use it on my body? Derms weigh in |
|
|
What is retinol, exactly? While it's not for everyone, the much-talked about skin care ingredient can be the linchpin of a well-rounded beauty routine. "It speeds cell turnover and aids exfoliation of dead skin, it gets into the pore and breaks apart keratin debris, goes deep in the skin to help build collagen improving skin texture, fine lines and wrinkles, and even helps heal sun damage and repair the skin," says board-certified dermatologist Dr. Leah Ansell. While retinol is most commonly used on the face, Ansell told us that it can also help on the body — specifically the chest and back areas, which are more prone to acne. If you're ready to give retinol a try, check out a few of our favorite body treatments below. |
