The death toll from Hurricane Ian reached 100 yesterday as Florida's top emergency administrator pushed back against criticism of officials in hard-hit Lee County over accusations of being too slow to evacuate ahead of the storm. Out of the 96 confirmed deaths in Florida, 54 of them were in Lee County, where officials didn't order evacuations until Sept. 27, one day before the storm hit. Other areas ordered evacuations a day or two earlier. "I believe Lee County and their administration ... made the best decision they felt was right for their community at that time," said Kevin Guthrie, the director of the Florida Division of Emergency Management. "And I will never second-guess a local emergency manager on their decision." |

Police in Stockton, California, are searching for a person of interest they say may be involved in five fatal shootings that have occurred there since July. Grainy security video showed a person police believe could be a suspect or a witness, and it was possible there was more than one shooter. All off the slayings happened after dark and in shaded areas with few security cameras. The victims were all men, and the latest attack happened last week. Up to $85,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest. "Be alert," Stockton's police chief said. "Have your head on a swivel." |

For example, pasta sauce, almond or soy milks, salad dressings and even plain ol' bread contain added sugars that have Americans consuming up to 22 teaspoons(!) of added sugar every day. Experts recommend reading labels closely and opting for unsweetened versions of your dairy or snack faves. For more tips on spotting hidden sugars, go here. |
