Costa Rican authorities said in a statement released last night that Miller Gardner, the son of former Yankees star Brett Gardner, may have died of carbon monoxide poisoning on March 21 after high levels of the dangerous gas were detected in the family's hotel room. Their room was next to a "specialized machine room which is believed to have some type of contamination," according to the Judicial Investigation Agency. Investigators said the official cause of death will be determined by an autopsy and toxicology testing, which could take months. |

NBC News chief consumer investigative correspondent Vicky Nguyen shares her journey as the child of Vietnamese refugees in her new memoir, "Boat Baby," which hits stores today. Nguyen's parents landed in Eugene, Oregon, in 1980, as part of a group of more than 2 million boat people who fled Vietnam between 1975 and 1992. "I think readers are seeing my mom and dad as I hoped they would: brave, resilient, optimistic," Nguyen told TODAY.com. "We know family can be messy and we have our ups and downs, but I'm grateful every day because my success is their success." |
