Longtime talk show host Phil Donahue died at 88 on Sunday night after a long illness, his family said yesterday. The pioneering TV figure won nine Daytime Emmys for his eponymous show, which ran for 29 years before he signed off in 1996. Donahue was also a regular on TODAY from 1979 to 1988. Actor and advocate Marlo Thomas, who was married to Donahue for 44 years, shared a photo of them together on vacation in a heartfelt Instagram post last night, urging others to "hold close those you cherish most."
