House Republicans voted to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas on Tuesday evening, one week after their first attempt failed on the House floor. In a 214-213 vote, Mayorkas became the second Cabinet secretary in U.S. history to be impeached, and the first in nearly 150 years, NBC News reported. House Speaker Mike Johnson said in a statement Mayorkas "willfully and consistently refused to comply with federal immigration laws, fueling the worst border catastrophe in American history." The matter now heads to the Senate, where Mayorkas will likely be acquitted, though the Senate is out of session until Feb. 26. Read the latest here. |

Mayor Karen Bass told NBC Los Angeles she thought people being in the building is "extremely dangerous." "I guarantee you tragedy will take place there if that place is not boarded up quickly," Bass said. Read more here. |
