Abuse and neglect as a child led to trauma that caused Alexis McCoy to binge eat as an adult. Once binge eating 4,000 calories a day, she decided to take control of her health. Now, she's lost 180 pounds and no longer needs medication for her mental health. McCoy admits that she had lapses in her binge eating. Finding strategies to prevent and manage her binge-eating was key to her weight-loss success. Some of the strategies she uses include: - She drinks a protein shake before birthday parties or a functions where she anticipates she might overeat.
- In a restaurant, she'll divide her meal into two servings and take one home.
- Every time she slips up, she gets right back on her healthy eating plan the next day. "For every downfall, I tried twice as hard the next day," she says.
