Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, is expected to plead guilty to two misdemeanor counts of failing to pay his taxes at the federal courthouse in Delaware this morning. This is the first time the Justice Department has brought charges against the child of a sitting president. Biden is accused of failing to pay in excess of $100,000 in federal taxes in 2017 and 2018. He has since paid the tax bill with interest, and prosecutors are expected to recommend a sentence of probation. Republicans have argued Biden received preferential treatment after a sweeping five-year investigation into his activities. The attorney general has denied those claims and the White House has said President Biden was not involved in his son's business ventures. Biden also faced a separate gun charge, however under an agreement that case may be wiped from his record. Here's the latest. |

Support poured in yesterday for Bronny James after a family spokesperson shared that the USC freshman guard suffered cardiac arrest on Monday during a basketball workout. James, 18, the son of Lakers superstar LeBron James, is in stable condition and out of the ICU, his family said. Stars from around the basketball world, including Hall of Famer Magic Johnson and NBA All-Stars Trae Young, Donovan Mitchell and Jayson Tatum, all expressed their support. Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin, who went into cardiac arrest on the field during a game in January, told the family he was "here for you guys." Derrick Dotson knows firsthand how tense interactions with the police can potentially end up. He is a former police officer and DEA agent himself, and he also had a cousin who was shot and killed by police officers in New York state. Those life experiences led the father of three to publish "The Police and Me," a children's book aimed at teaching kids and their parents about what police officers do and how they should properly engage with an officer. "Parents kept asking me: 'What do we say to our kids about talking to police?'" Dotson told TODAY.com. Four years after their father died, a group of sisters in Connecticut got to hear his heartbeat again. Esteban Santiago's family donated his heart after he suffered a medical emergency in 2019 that put him in a coma and led to his death at 39. The family's selfless act saved the life of recipient Peter Turzer. "Every day I wake up, and my hero is up above," Turzer told NBC Connecticut. Santiago's daughter connected with Turzer through organ donation services, which led to the powerful moment when she and her two sisters were able to hear their father's heartbeat again. "To hear his heart, it is like he is here. It felt like I was hugging dad," Kianna Santiago told NBC Connecticut. "It just felt like home." See more photos here. |
