(Warning: This story contains disturbing footage.) An Ohio police department is facing questions after body camera video was released showing a K9 officer unleashing a dog on a Black man who had surrendered to authorities with his hands raised. Authorities said they chased Jadarrius Rose, 23, for nearly 30 minutes on July 4 before he stopped his vehicle and came out with his hands up. An Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper is seen on the bodycam video yelling multiple times to Circleville Police Officer Ryan Speakman, "Do not release the dog with his hands up!" But Speakman releases the dog, and the animal can be seen biting Rose and pulling on his arm as he screams in pain. Police said Rose was treated at a local hospital and charged with "failure to comply." The Circleville Police Department has not commented on the incident to NBC News. Read more here.

"I went to hell and back and my road to recovery had some potholes as well," he said. He then choked up while addressing his fans. "If you see me out from now on and every once in a while, I just burst into tears, it's because it's been tough, man," he said. Retired police sergeant Brett Sobieraski was ready to run a thousand miles to honor the memory of his fallen colleague, so he came up with a daunting challenge: 50 marathons in 50 days. Sobieraski completed the herculean feat for an incredible tribute that also raised $105,000 for the family of Tony Mazurkiewicz. The father of four and 29-year veteran of the Rochester Police Department in New York was killed in a shooting on the job last year. "I wanted to bring attention to his sacrifice as well as provide support for the family ... mostly financial, but emotional support also," Sobieraski told TODAY.com. He began on April 23 and ran marathons across eight states that totaled 1,310 miles, ending in Rochester on June 11. "I love that he wants Tony's memory to live on just like we do," Mazurkiewicz's widow, Lynn, said on TODAY. |
