At least two people were killed and more than two dozen others injured at a mass shooting during a block party in Baltimore on Sunday morning, police said. Officials said three of the wounded people suffered critical injuries and the injured ranged in age from 13 to 32, with most of them being teenagers. Police, who initially received calls about the shooting around 12:30 a.m., say they don't know if the victims were targeted or if they were shot randomly. "This was a reckless, cowardly act that happened here," Mayor Brandon Scott said at a news conference, vowing to find the people responsible. Here's the latest. |

A 25-year-old Texas man who went missing more than eight years ago was found alive over the weekend. Rudy Farias, who vanished near his Houston home when he was 17 or 18, sparking a nationwide hunt, was "located safe" on Saturday, the Texas Center for the Missing said Saturday. The organization said he was recovering in a hospital for undisclosed reasons, and his mother told Houston's NBC affiliate he was "in bad shape," but she was grateful to have him back. Farias, who family members said suffered from depression, was last seen March 6, 2015, walking his two dogs near his home. The pets eventually returned home without their leashes, but Farias never did. Police did not suspect foul play, and were still investigating where he's been and why he left. Here's what we know. |

Maybe stick to the tea cups this summer? A popular amusement park in North Carolina shut down a giant roller coaster after a visitor spotted a large crack in one of its support beams — which visibly moved out of place as the packed car sped past. Jeremey Wagner filmed the frightening video last week at Carowinds, a 400-acre park in Charlotte, and said he immediately reported the issue to guest services. On Sunday, the park confirmed it had shut down the ride, known as the Fury 325, which the park says has a peak height of 325 feet and reaches up to 95 mph in speed. "Safety is our top priority and we appreciate the patience and understanding of our valued guests during this process," the park said. |

The Supreme Court's ruling last week that President Joe Biden's student loan forgiveness program is unconstitutional means that about 20 million eligible students will not have their debts cancelled. Applications for Biden's forgiveness plan had been on hold awaiting the Supreme Court's decision, and now student loan payments were expected to begin again at the end of August. Payments had been paused for three years during the Covid pandemic. A law professor at the University of North Carolina shared with TODAY.com some other options borrowers can try now that the forgiveness program has been scrapped. Here's what to know. |

Achieve your life and health goals with easy tips. |
Nick Bricker was watching the final seconds tick down as his beloved Philadelphia Eagles won the Super Bowl in 2018 when he got up, dumped his beer in the sink and threw his cigarettes in the trash. Bricker's weight had climbed to 437 pounds from a regimen of drinking 35 to 40 beers and smoking two packs of cigarettes every day. But even after ditching his bad habits, his weight didn't start to change until he started a walking routine in 2020. He's since lost 222 pounds, alleviating breathing problems, eliminating his acid reflux and boosting his lung function from 30% to 100%. Bricker shared with TODAY.com how walking saved his life, helping him switch to an active lifestyle and a better diet. Bricker is an inspiring member of our Start TODAY Facebook group, where you can find regular tips and motivation along with our Start TODAY Newsletter.
