Four people were killed and 28 others were injured in a shooting in a small dance studio at a birthday party in Alabama, authorities said. The Sweet 16 party was for a cheerleader at Dadeville High School, according to Michael Taylor, a football coach at the school. Police have not released the identities of those who died, or arrested or described anyone who may have carried out the shooting. The DJ at the party told NBC News at least three parents were present at the gathering on Saturday night and one of them was struck by gunfire and injured. A vigil was held yesterday at First Baptist Church in Dadeville (above), and President Joe Biden issued a statement yesterday about the incident. "What has our nation come to when children cannot attend a birthday party without fear?" Biden said. Here's the latest. |

Doctors around the country are seeing an explosion of strep throat cases among children that has coincided with a nationwide shortage of amoxicillin, the liquid version of the antibiotic used to treat strep. Peak season for strep usually starts in December and goes into April, according to experts, but doctors are reporting many more cases than usual. "I've been in infectious diseases and pediatrics for 30 years, and I've never seen it this bad," Dr. Greg DeMuri, pediatric infectious disease physician with UW Health Kids in Madison, Wisconsin, told TODAY.com. "We are at a level twice that of our worst year, looking back over the past 10, 20 years or so." Here's what parents need to know, including unusual symptoms and more reasons behind the surge. |

Using fabric softener is one of those laundry habits passed down through generations because it makes your clothes soft and smell good, but experts say using it is actually a bad idea. We spoke to two cleaning service pros who said that fabric softener can actually cause your clothes to smell worse over time and screw up your washing machine. The fabric softener coats clothes in a waxy substance that can start to stink after a while, and it also builds up deposits of film that can lead to a shorter life span for your washing machine. Our experts suggested a simple substitute you can mix at home, and we also have 5 fabric softener alternatives to shop right now. If you want to continue to use it, consider these tips about how to safely apply it, and 3 types of clothing you should not use it on. |

Seasonal allergies can have you trying anything to stop the sneezing, watery eyes and runny nose. One old wives' tale says that eating honey can help you curb the symptoms, but is that actually true? No, a doctor at Nationwide Children's Hospital told us. The pollen that bees collect is from flowers, whereas the pollen in the air that's setting off people's allergies is from trees, grasses and weeds. And honey isn't the only bogus remedy, as experts gave us 3 other natural remedies that aren't backed up by any data. The good news is we do have 12 proven ways you can alleviate allergies at home, from air filters to cleaning your bedding. |

A little pick-me-up before you go. |
Kelly Kirby is one of those people who feels "second-hand embarrassment" for people who are the center of attention in public, whether it's for a wedding proposal or a birthday celebration. She unfortunately shared that information with her husband, Dan, who had a field day with it at Disney World in 2017. Dan publicly proposed to her 10 times, dropping to one knee while waiting on line for rides, standing outside a restaurant and posing for pictures. Kelly's hilariously horrified reactions were filmed by her sister in a video Kelly recently shared on TikTok. The mom of three can laugh about it now. "It was all in good fun," she told TODAY.com. Dan's actual proposal a month before they went to Disney was way more low-key. "I was getting ready for work and he did it in our mudroom," she said. "There were no theatrics. It was perfect." See the funny video here. |
