NASA prepares to launch the Artemis rocket to orbit the moon, and the government will stop sending free at-home COVID-19 tests. Plus, the five types of friends we need to achieve optimal happiness. |

On Monday, NASA was expected to launch the Artemis rocket for an uncrewed, 42-day test flight to orbit the moon. The rocket features two boosters that are 15% more powerful than the rockets that led Apollo astronauts to the moon. If the Artemis mission goes well, the plan is to have an astronaut mission follow in the Orion crew capsule in 2024, with a lunar landing eyed for 2025. The rocket was set to launch Monday morning, but could be delayed due to thunderstorms and last minute repairs. Tune in to TODAY this morning for the latest. |

The government will stop giving away free COVID-19 tests Friday due to a lack of congressional funding, a senior Biden administration official said Sunday. Tests are mailed out to people who order them online at Covid.gov. A supply of tests will be held in case of a spike in cases in the fall. "If Congress provides funding, we will expeditiously resume distribution of free tests through covidtests.gov," the source told NBC News. "Until then, we believe reserving the remaining tests for distribution later this year is the best course." |

Sunday night's MTV Video Music Awards had a little bit of everything for fans. While accepting the award for video of the year, Taylor Swift put a bow on the evening when she announced she'll release a new album in October. Kane Brown also made history as the first male country artist to perform at the VMAs, and Johnny Depp made his first public appearance since the public defamation trial with ex-wife Amber Heard when a digital version of his face appeared on a moon man. "Hey, you know what?" Depp said. "I needed the work. I just want you guys to know that I'm available for birthdays, bar mitzvahs, bat mitzvahs, weddings, wakes, any old thing you need." |

Cassville R-IV School District, located in southwest Missouri, has approved the use of corporal punishment as a "last resort" to discipline students. The district has a new policy that allows certified people to "use physical force as a method of correcting student behavior." While it's unclear what's required in order to be certified, the punishment is supposed to be employed only after "all other alternative means of discipline have failed." We spoke to parents and a licensed psychologist about the policy, you can read more here. |

Sometimes, you just gotta go all in. Nari Rampersad's daughter, Sarita, is a die-hard Harry Styles fan. So when Nari got tickets to see the pop star in Toronto for her birthday, he knew better than to argue with her about what they would wear. The two hit the thrift stores and put together coordinating outfits (and feather boas) that no doubt would have received Harry's approval. (Nari got his gear in the women's section.) At the show, several fans approached them to offer compliments and take photos. "Seeing her happy is just pretty much all I want," Nari told us. See more photos here. |
