Biden to give prime-time speech about the 'soul of the nation' as midterm elections approach.

President Biden plans to give a prime-time speech on Thursday from Independence National Historical Park in Philadelphia focusing on "the continued battle for the soul of the nation" and how America's "rights and freedoms are still under attack," a White House official said yesterday. His speech comes as midterm elections enter the closing months before November's vote. Here's what we know so far, plus the signs that Republicans' hopes for a "red wave" are receding.

👑 Meghan Markle says Prince Harry 'lost' his relationship with Prince Charles after they left royal life.

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, has opened up about the relationship between Prince Harry and Prince Charles, as well as other struggles with the royal family, in an expansive interview released two days before the 25-year anniversary of the death of Princess Diana. The former Meghan Markle said in an interview with The Cut that Harry said he "lost" his dad "in the process" of their split with the royal family. She also spoke about having to get permission from the royal family to release photos of her kids, and discussed a possible reality docuseries about her love story with Harry.

😷 More kids than ever are going to the ER due to an overlooked home hazard: Button batteries.

The number of kids going to the emergency with battery-related injuries has soared. A report in the journal Pediatrics found there were more than 70,000 ER visits by children between 2010 and 2019 for batteries that were swallowed or stuck in the mouth, nose or ears, compared to 68,000 visits between 1990 and 2009. One of the study's authors points out button batteries are especially dangerous, and the problem is parents don't know many everyday devices have easily accessible battery compartments. Parents should "treat button batteries the same way they treat cleaning chemicals or the knives in the kitchen," one doctor tells us. The Cinema Foundation has announced more than 3,000 movie theaters will offer $3 discounted tickets this Saturday, Sept. 3. The promotion comes in celebration of National Cinema Day and may potentially become an annual event. "We wanted to do something to celebrate moviegoing," said Cinema Foundation president Jackie Brenneman, who called the move a "thank you" to fans who led a record-breaking return to theaters this summer. Serena Williams' daughter, Olympia, was her mom's mini-me with a special throwback look as the tennis legend took the court last night in what is expected to be her final U.S. Open. The adorable 4-year-old cheered on her mom's win over Danka Kovinic in a replica of Serena's black Nike playing outfit, while also wearing her hair in braids with white beads.
