Even if your ticker is in top shape, nutritionists still want you to eat more heart-healthy foods.
A heart-focused diet that's low in saturated fat and sodium can lower harmful LDL cholesterol and reduce blood pressure. That's important because heart disease doesn't just happen when you turn 66 or after a heart attack -- it begins as early as childhood and progresses over a lifetime, experts say. Focus on eating plenty of produce and minimally processed foods every day, including fruits and vegetables, whole grains, beans, nuts, fish, low-fat dairy, skinless poultry and olive oil.
