Texas is refusing to comply with a cease-and-desist letter from the Biden administration over actions that have stopped U.S. Border Patrol agents from accessing part of the border with Mexico. The Department of Homeland Security requested for the state to "cease and desist" its takeover of Shelby Park, an epicenter of southwest border illegal immigration in Eagle Pass, which Texas refused. DHS officials said on Jan. 13 that a woman and two children drowned in the Rio Grande after Border Patrol agents "were physically barred by Texas officials from entering the area" under orders from Gov. Greg Abbott. A White House spokesperson criticized Abbott's immigration policies in response to the drownings. Here's the latest. |

Buckingham Palace officials announced yesterday that Catherine, Princess of Wales, will be in the hospital for 10 to 14 days after undergoing a planned abdominal surgery on Tuesday for unspecified reasons. Her condition is non-cancerous, a palace source told NBC News, but it's expected to keep her from any public appearances through Easter. Palace officials also announced that King Charles III will be undergoing a corrective procedure next week for an enlarged prostate and will also be postponing public appearances. |

Quenten Thomas, 27, a father of three children under 9 from Tennessee, died last week from complications from the flu that began with two symptoms, his dad told NBC News. "It hurt really bad when he coughed, and he was having trouble catching (his) breath," Robert Thomas recalled. A nearby hospital initially sent Quenten home to rest and recover, but his oxygen levels remained low and he was still in pain, so he went back, his father said. Quenten was eventually put on a ventilator and went into a coma before dying. His dad is speaking out to urge others to get the flu vaccine. "If you love your family, don't risk it," he said.
