In a striking acknowledgment of the need to address the migrant influx at the southern border, the Biden administration announced yesterday that it waived 26 federal laws to allow more border wall construction in southern Texas. The announcement came as Democratic leaders in multiple cities and states have called on Biden to take action to address the crisis. The construction will use federal funds appropriated in 2019 to build a border wall in a 17-mile section of Starr County. It marks a major policy reversal for Biden, who vowed during his 2020 campaign that not "another foot of wall" would be constructed. In response, former President Donald Trump, a strong proponent of building a wall on the southern border, accused Biden of breaking "every environmental law in the book to prove that I was right." Achieve your life and health goals with easy tips. |
When "The Longevity Diet" author and USC gerontology professor Valter Longo is at the airport, he lugs his bags up the stairs instead of using the escalator, and he ignores the strange looks he gets. After all, most of the 100-year-olds he's met through his work have told him they were physically active every day, and so he follows that advice any way he can. Longo, 55, has the audacious goal of living to be 120 years old. He believes 7 daily habits for living a long life that he's gleaned from his research will help him get there. Taking a daily walk, eating a plant-rich diet and, surprisingly, keeping his animal protein intake low are all parts of his longevity lifestyle. See all his tips here. |

A little pick-me-up before you go. |
Standing in front of Sleeping Beauty's castle at Disneyland in California, Javier López Jiménez felt it was the perfect time to get down one knee, pull out a ring and propose to Samuel Bishop Macias, his partner of seven years. It turned out Macias had the exact same idea. He got down on one knee as well and took out a ring as the two laughed, cried and hugged in a heartwarming double proposal by the couple from Guadalajara, Mexico. The sweet moment was captured on video by a fellow Disneyland guest and went viral. "For me, it was perfect," Jiménez told us. See the moment here. |
